The EU Commission has announced that it will present how it intends to simplify sustainability reporting (CSRD/ESRS) and the regulations on due diligence (CS3D) as part of the first "omnibus" on 26 February. Two further omnibuses on the corporate category (mid-caps) and the taxonomy are to follow.

Dr Miriam Maske from the Bundeswehr University Munich and Tim Schwertner presented the current research project "From Victims to Perpetrators: the Ripple Effect of Dishonest Reporting in Organisational Budgeting." on 16.12.2024. (together with Prof Dr Matthias Sohn) and received extensive feedback on this.

From 7 to 8 October 2024, a cross-university doctoral seminar was held by the University of Augsburg (Chair of Prof. Dr Robert Ullmann), the University of Duisburg-Essen (Chair of Prof. Dr Inga Hardeck), the Professorship of Finance and Taxation (Prof. Dr Christina Elschner) and the Junior Professorship of Taxation and Accounting (Prof. Dr Drahomir Klimsa) at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) and the Collegium Polonicum in Słubice.

On 1 October 2024, Sonja Wüstemann spoke at the German Institute for Compliance (DICO) forum in Berlin as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board on the topic of "Transparency as a challenge of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD)".

From 19 to 20 September 2024, the autumn conference of the Scientific Commission on Taxation of the Association of University Professors of Business Administration (VHB) took place at Kiel University. Drahomir Klimsa presented his current research project `Will You Marry Me'...in December? Tax-Induced Wedding Date Shifting and Mismatching in Long-Term Relationships (together with Kerstin Roeder and Robert Ullmann) and received valuable feedback.

On 9 September 2024, the Viadrina Compliance Center organised the 14th Global Governance & Compliance Forum at the Universidade Autonóma de Lisboa under the direction of Bartosz Makowicz. Sonja Wüstemann moderated the panel "Modern Concepts in Organisations. Compliance, Sustainability Reporting, ESG in One Integrated Approach".

From 5 to 6 September 2024, the annual "Mannheim Taxation" conference of the University of Mannheim and the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) took place in Mannheim.

From 2 to 7 September 2024, our dual students completed a week of seminars in Lisbon as part of an Erasmus-funded Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) together with students from the Universidade Autonóma de Lisboa and the SGH Warsaw School of Economics and discussed current challenges for governance, compliance, ethics and integrity.

Christina Elschner and Beatrice Renges from the University of Duisburg presented their project on "The role of professionals in international tax policy" at the TAR Research Seminar at Paderborn University on 11 June 2024.

In June, our chair was represented by Manuel Normann at the fourth workshops of the International Public Policy Association (IPPA) in Guadalajara, Mexico. The conference focussed primarily on the question of alternative perspectives on public policy and the merging of previously unconnected research perspectives and newer theoretical approaches.

The 46th Congress of the European Accounting Association (EAA) took place from 15 to 17 May 2024 in Bucharest, Romania. The EAA Congress is the largest European conference in the field of accounting with over 1,000 participants.

A paper on capital market efficiency by Prof Dr Drahomir Klimsa, Mario Rieger and Prof Dr Robert Ullmann (both University of Augsburg) was published in the February issue of Economics Letters.

Ina Sprenger and Julia Sagebiel from EY gave students on the Corporate Taxation course an insight into transfer pricing and everyday working life.

Manuel Normann presented his project on emotions in tax policy at the Faculty of Economics' doctoral student workshop. The workshop is organised by the Faculty's four TT Professors and takes place every semester.
