Colloquium
After the topic has been assigned and you have registered your thesis, you will have time to familiarise yourself with your topic. After about 3-5 weeks, the colloquium will take place. The purpose of the colloquium is to present and discuss the objectives and structure of your thesis with the chair's staff and other final-year candidates.
Topics
Topic suggestions are provided by the chair. Own suggestions can be submitted.
The topics are either tax-systematic, theoretical or empirical (quantitative or qualitative). Your own proposals that fall within the chair's range of topics can be submitted in advance of the information events. It is useful if you are clear about your preferences (subject area and, if applicable, methodological approaches) before the information event.
In essence, topics from the following areas are assigned:
- Business Taxation;
- Tax Professionals;
- Tax Politics;
- Taxation and Society;
Further information on writing your final thesis can be found in the corresponding Moodle course after you have been accepted as a supervisor.
In addition, we recommend that you make use of the services offered by the University Library and the Writing Centre to support your writing and research process.
The Junior Professorship for Taxation & Accounting offers bachelor's and masters theses in all areas of taxation. Methodologically, both normative-analytical and empirical topics can be assigned, depending on the students' preference. Students may also submit their own topic proposals. The minimum requirement for writing a Bachelor's or Master's thesis is successful participation in at least one tax-related course in the profiling phase of the Bachelor's or Master's programme. Final theses by students who have had above-average success in a course offered by the Professor of Taxation & Accounting will be given priority for supervision. However, we are also happy to supervise other theses depending on capacity.
