The monograph is the result of ethnographic field research with and about cleaning staff at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. In her book, Costas follows people's everyday working lives and outlines their struggle for recognition, visibility and dignity. The ethnography shows that the public, stigmatised perception of the cleaners is at odds with their self-image.

The EGOS Book Award is presented annually to outstanding academic monographs that contribute to knowledge about organisations and organisational life. It is considered one of the most important prizes in European management and organisational research.

Dramas of Dignity: Cleaners in the Corporate Underworld of Berlin was published in 2022 by Cambridge University Press. The German translation Im Minus-Bereich: Reinigungskräfte und ihr Kampf um Würde followed in 2023 from Suhrkamp Verlag.
